The Pointe Isabelle bistro bar pays tribute to a young Englishwoman, a pioneer of mountaineering in the Victorian era. This is Isabella STRATON, an intrepid woman who defied the conventions of her time and who helped to change the place of women in society. Isabella climbed Mont Blanc for the first time in 1875. It was only natural that her grandchildren paid tribute to this extraordinary woman when they opened this establishment.
Isabella STRATON, a wealthy English heiress, left her home country to live her own adventures. Orphaned as a young adult, she had to become independent. While her fortune helped her, it was her stubbornness that was most valuable to her in charting her own path. Arriving in the region when she was in her twenties, she undertook a series of expeditions in the Alps and the Pyrenees. Nicknamed “The Lady” in relation to her wealthy origins, she marked the history of female mountaineering by carrying out these expeditions. It is also thanks to the mountains that she found love, without the arms of a guide named Jean Charlet.
