Is it possible to ski from Val-d'Isère to Courchevel?

Two prestigious resorts, two names synonymous with French luxury and exclusive vacations: Courchevel and Val-d'Isère are among the must-see destinations in the Alps. These locations are not that far apart geographically, but mountain roads make the distance and accessibility more challenging. This often raises the question: can you ski from Val-d'Isère to Courchevel? Homebooker tells you everything you need to know in this article!

Distance between Val-d'Isère and Courchevel

The distance between the two resorts is 84.2 km, which is just under two hours by car on winding, single-lane roads. However, as the crow flies, it is only 28 km. These two renowned names in the Alpine ski area are neighbors, but in reality, they are difficult to reach without a vehicle.

If you want to travel from one place to the other, there are three options available to you: car, taxi, or bus. In your own vehicle, it will take you about 1.5 hours to drive, in good weather and traffic conditions. The same applies to taxis. By bus, things get a little more complicated, as the journey is slowed down by the lower speed of the bus and possible stops. To get from one resort to the other more quickly, there is one last exceptional alternative: helicopter, as both resorts are equipped with an altiport.

However, one question remains among skiers: is it possible to ski from Val-d'Isère to Courchevel? We will try to answer this question with you in the simplest way possible.

Can you ski from Val-d'Isère to Courchevel?

While ski enthusiasts would love to be able to do so, we regret to inform you that this is not possible. Unfortunately, it is impossible to ski from Courchevel to Val-d'Isère. Why? Simply because the two resorts are located in two different ski areas, each requiring separate ski passes, and are not connected to each other. Let us explain.

Courchevel is part of the Trois Vallées ski area, along with Méribel and Val Thorens. The largest ski area in the world, these three major resorts are connected to each other but closed to others. Although Val-d'Isère is in the same region, it is part of the Espace Killy ski area, along with the resort of Tignes. As with the Trois Vallées, the Espace Killy allows you to ski in both of its resorts, but not elsewhere.

There are no ski lift connections between the two areas. If you want to experience skiing in the Trois Vallées and then in the Espace Killy, you will have to travel between the resorts by your own means and purchase a suitable pass for each location.
