FAQ

Renting a chalet in Megève

In Megève, choosing a chalet starts with where it stands. Mont d'Arbois, Rochebrune, the village centre, Le Jaillet and Côte 2000 answer different needs, depending on access to the ski area, the walk into the village, the light, the views or the degree of privacy you are after.

The address does not say everything, though. How the space is laid out, how well the chalet is kept, the quality of its fittings and of its service all shape what the stay is really like. Two chalets that look comparable on paper rarely are once you are there. The properties that bring together the right location, the right layout and the right level of service remain few, especially in the busiest weeks.

Megève is 83% second homes, occupied on fixed dates by families who come back. Homebooker follows and selects these properties season after season, including some that are never advertised publicly. Knowledge built on the ground, beyond the features and availability shown online.

Which area should you choose to rent a chalet in Megève?

It depends first on the balance you want between the village, the skiing and the quiet. The village centre suits those who would rather walk everywhere; Rochebrune combines closeness to the centre with access to the ski area; Mont d'Arbois stands out for its residential setting, its larger properties and the golf course in summer. Le Jaillet and Côte 2000 answer a search for space, views and calm. In Megève, the right address is above all the one that makes the stay simpler. In the busiest weeks, easy access to the slopes, to the village and to the places you actually use becomes the deciding factor.

How far ahead should you book a chalet in Megève?

For the most sought-after weeks in Megève, it is better to book several months ahead. The February holidays are usually the first to fill, particularly for chalets that combine location, space and services. Christmas and New Year are also settled very early. January, the start of March and some end-of-season weeks offer more choice and generally allow more flexibility. Booking late remains possible but narrows the options: you then often have to choose between the area, the layout of the chalet and the level of service.

What does a serviced chalet in Megève bring?

A serviced chalet brings, above all, an organisation designed to make the stay run smoothly. A housekeeper, a private chef or a driver step in according to the level of service agreed and what the guests need, but the quality of the experience also depends on how the property was built to work with a team. How staff move through the house, where the service areas sit, how many bathrooms there are and whether the space matches the number of guests matter as much as the services advertised. A chalet meant for ten people has to work comfortably for ten people, staff included. Homebooker checks these things on site and draws a clear line between the services included in the rental and those arranged on request. Because in Megève, a serviced chalet is not simply a chalet with staff: the house has to be designed so that the service is barely noticed.

Why are some chalets in Megève never advertised online?

In Megève, part of the rental market works off-market. Some owners choose not to publish the address, the interior photographs or the availability of their chalet, in order to protect their privacy and keep control over how it is marketed. Those properties then circulate confidentially, mainly among qualified clients and through agencies based locally that deal directly with the owners. Being off-market is not a guarantee of quality in itself. A confidential chalet has to be assessed as rigorously as an advertised one: location, access to the slopes and to the village, orientation, layout, upkeep and level of service. That is precisely the point of off-market in Megève: not reaching a supposedly better market, but reaching the part of the market that simply is not visible online.
